Alnwick
THE scores last week bore testament to the excellent condition of the course and this week was exactly the same.

The Alnwick League team hosted Newbiggin in the Davison Cup and sent the visitors away with their tails between their legs.

The Newbiggin side, all with handicaps of less than two, were humbled by a relatively inexperienced Alnwick side who won the tie by three matches to two. Invitation day was well supported as Alnwick members entertained their friends and guests from other clubs in the area. A beautiful sunny day with only a light breeze saw most scores well into the 40s.

James Cookson played the game of his life with 10 pars and three birdies to take first place with his partner M Dawson from Warkworth with a magnificent score of 53 points.

In second place with 47 points – which on any other day may have been good enough to win – were Lawrie Stewart and his partner J Shillito.
