Alnwick
WITH the course in immaculate condition at Alnwick and on ever-improving greens players hit top form in the monthly Medal at the weekend.
A young player in top form at Alnwick, Jack Friar followed up last week's victory in The Heart Foundation with an awesome net score of 60 but was beaten on countback by old campaigner Peter Lewis who hit a splendid vein of form to card a Gross level par round of 70 and take the No 1 slot also with a nett 60.
A remarkable achievement by both players and one of the lowest nett scores recorded in competition since the course became 18 holes.
Two relative newcomers to the game, Martin Quince and Michael Bell, were hot on their heels in third and fourth places respectively.
Even more remarkable was the fact that no fewer than 18 players had a score of nett par or better.
