BOB Lumsden, from the host club, equalled the Belford course record of 70 in the latest in the series of Open Days in the Kaims Country Park North Northumberland League on Saturday.
However, he was left to rue a bogey five at the final hole with
a new record in sight.
The ultra-consistent Sean Jackson from Magdalene Fields was runner-up in the individual gross with 72.
Both played through a 30-minute rain and hail storm in mid-afternnoon which drenched the course, welcome though it was in the dry conditions.
Happily, the weather cleared and play ended as it began in bright sunshine.
Lumsden's 65 was also the day's best nett return by a shot from three players on 66.
In the teams section, Alnwick completed the double in heading both gross and nett.
