DAVID Weddell retained the 36-hole Club Championship with a five-shot victory over Steve Taylor. He scored 69 and 73 for 142 to win the title for the third time. He played sound golf throughout, his one blemish being a double bogey at the fourth in his second round after going out of bounds from the tee. His first round 69 comprised a back nine of 32 – four under par.

David is a former course record holder, shooting a 63 before it was lengthened.

David's success was the first leg of a rare family double – not to be outdone, his son Joe, who has just turned 14, won the club's first-ever Junior Championship, also over 36 holes, the following day.

He scored 82 and 80 for 162 to beat Andrew Hood by one shot. A 30ft putt on the last hole brought him victory.
