INTERNATIONAL soccer starlets Lucy Bronze and Lucy Staniforth have helped kick-start England Ladies U17s chase for World Cup qualification.
The Duchess's High School students both featured in the Three Lions' 4-0 romp over Group One hosts Czech Republic on Tuesday.

Lucy B, 16, who plays for Sunderland Ladies First Team, added to her tally of caps by playing the full 90 minutes in the opening Second Round clash while Lucy S, 15, and a member of the Sunderland Female Centre of Excellence, came on as a substitute 10 minutes from time to grab her first Three Lions cap, replacing Toni Duggan upfront.

The pair were called up last week for an 18-strong U17 ladies squad to compete in three group matches.

The storming win puts England top of the table and into a commanding position after their other Group One opponents, Holland and Belgium, drew 1-1. It means that World Cup qualification is firmly in their hands with England facing Belgium today and Holland on Sunday.

The winner of Group One will continue in their quest to qualify for the 2008 inaugural Fifa U17 Women's World Cup in New Zealand in October. Follow both Lucys' progress at www.northumberlandgazette.co.uk
