AN Alnwick gym has become the first in the North East to install a new state-of-the-art biking system.
The latest attraction at No Limits gym, in Fenkle Street, is the adreneline-filled exercise tool – virtual reality X-Biking.
Worth £15,000, X-Biking allows gym-goers to mount an exercise bike, with gears and moving handlebars, and ride a virtual r
eality course which is displayed on a 60-inch plasma screen.
An instructor sits in on the sessions and guides cyclists through the experience, which makes you feel as if you're actually riding the course in front of you.
Ian Simpson, from No Limits, explained: "X-Biking is a virtual reality biking system and it looks like you're part of the ride.
"It is a great motivational exercise and the great thing about it is that it is accessible to everyone. It is very versatile meaning that you can take part in the sessions whatever level of fitness you have.
"On the trial run, we had a qualified triathlete and a lady who had given birth nine weeks ago sit in on the same session, and they both had a good ride and got something out of it."
X-Biking hit the markets in October 2007. Ian said: "I would just say to people don't be frightened and come along and give it a go."
The X-Biking attraction is part of a brand new £65,000 refurbishment at No Limits.
It holds three X-Biking sessions from Monday to Friday at 9.30pm, 12.30pm and 7pm. There is also a Saturday session at 10.30am.
The cost per 45-minute session is £5 for non-gym members and £2.50 for members.
Booking is required and each session is run on a first come first serve basis. To book call No Limits on 01665 604606 or go into the gym.
