New year, new focus

Northumberland Now launches Bandstand, a monthly look at the best of the region's ip-and-coming bands. James Willoughby kicks off with The Tuckers.
IT looks like it's going to be a good year for The Tuckers.
So good in fact, guitarist James Aitman admitted: "We've had lots of interest, the phone hasn't stopped ringing."
With a new Tucker bus, an established line-up and manager and with a fantastic 2007 behind them, the Alnwick rockers look set to
get the show on the road as they prepare to take 2008 by storm.
And with the possibility of a UK and an international tour, it could mean that the band will not be playing in the same old streets for too much longer.
James said: "We've had lots of interest and things are falling into place. The phone hasn't stopped ringing.
"We have been approached by a UK tour company about the possibility of doing a university tour throughout the UK and we are thinking about Canada in the summer.
"We had based this year around an international tour but offers have been coming into place so it all depends what we are doing at the time."
Last year, the band – Kevin and James Aitman, Nathan King, Glen Mattison and Nicky Waters – toured Holland and made a string of appearances on stage two of Newcastle's Carling Academy.
They recorded at Newcastle's infamous Blast studios – following in the footsteps of chart-toppers The Arctic Monkeys – and were hailed by one BBC pundit as "a group of very talented musicians" and "one to look out for in the future."
But with a new year comes a new focus.
James explained: "We are coming at it from a different angle this year. Last year it was about concentrating on the line-up of the band. It was very much let's get together and see what we can salvage with the new line-up.
"But we did a big European tour in Holland together and we cracked that and since then we have gone on to establish ourselves.
"We've been together for almost a year now so this year it is a case of pushing on.
"This year it is going to be more about the music. It is going to be us trying to sell ourselves as a band and show that we are good musicians too."
The group have already started to work on a new collaboration of songs and are experimenting with a new Indie rock dance sound, which James describes as a mix between Led Zeppelin and The Chemical Brothers.
James also admitted that the ambitious band will be looking to top the success of 2007.
He said: "We are going to be aiming higher this year.
"We'd like to play at the Carling Academy's stage one and it would be great if the university tour comes off.
"It would be good to crack the universities because we want to play to the right crowds and that is where the scene is. If it comes off it will be very exciting."
The band's next gig is at Ashington Central on Sunday. For more information on The Tuckers visit Myspace.com/thetuckersofficial
