A YOUNG businesswoman can't wait to get cracking on a global egg hunt.
Christine Jackson, of Sunny Hill Free Range Eggs who was awarded the 2007 Young Nuffield Scholarship Award, is about to embark on a 32,000-mile journey around the world.

Having already visited China, Brussels, Germany and the Netherlands to collec
t egg industry information, during the next 60 days she will travel around the USA and Australasia visiting poultry farms, egg producers and packers.

During her visits she will meet Fred Adams, of Cal-Main Foods, at the world's largest egg producer.

Based in Mississippi, he has 27 million egg-laying hens – more than the whole of the UK laying hens put together!

At the end of her whirlwind tour she will attend the Nuffield Worldwide Conference in Melbourne, Australia.

With 38,000 laying hens, Sunny Hill is the largest producer of free range eggs in the North East.

Christine said: "This is an egg hunt with a difference. My aim is to take as much information on board as possible, and learn new practices and witness first-hand the scale on which egg production is done, especially in the States. This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity, which I can't wait to get cracking on with."

To become the 2007 Junior Nuffield Scholar, Christine, from Detchant Farm, near Belford, showed the judging panel that she had exceptional entrepreneurial skills and the potential for offering future leadership in the industry.

Launched by Christine and her sister Catherine last year, Sunny Hill is already supplying many of the North East's leading supermarkets, specialist shops, sporting venues, hotels and restaurants.
