SILENT TRIBUTE: Lesbury WI's president Val Brooks welcomed us to the meeting and, as it was Remembrance Day, asked us to stand for one minute to remember the fallen.
We were pleased to welcome two new members to our meeting.

Val had the happy duty to present Susan Wood with the cup which she won at the Hotspur Group meeting on November 5 for her cake decorated as a bonfire night scene. She also had the pleasu
re of congratulating Kathleen Turnbull for winning first prize for her flower arrangement on County Day in Morpeth. Well done ladies, we are proud of you.

Elaine Foreman collected the rose bowl and an orchid for winning the most points in the competitions last year.

After the business of the meeting was covered, Val reminded everyone to add to the list the food they will be bringing to our Christmas party next month.

It is hard to believe that a year has passed since our last one. Time really does fly when we're having fun.

Some of our members are appearing in the Hotspur Players' production on December 12 and 13 in Lesbury Village Hall. The proceeds will be divided between an arthritis charity and Lesbury Village Hall. It is in a good cause so do come and laugh at us ,or laugh with us, but please support us.

Val welcomed Marjorie Goodchild and her husband. Marjorie is well known for her cooking skills and she did not disappoint.

She produced five delicious dishes of hot pepper prawns, inside out summer pudding, halloumi and tomato salad, fennel with pears, and lemon cream. She made it look so easy and took trouble to explain everything for those of us who are culinarily challenged (new speak for can't cook).

Our vote of thanks was given by Helen Page.

After tea and biscuits the competition winners for an exotic salad were Elaine Foreman, Kathleen Turnbull and Eleanor Morgan.

The birthday flowers were presented to Susan Wood.

Marjorie Goodchild added her lovely food as raffle prizes and the lucky winners were Patience Jary, Ann Turnbull, Helen Page, Eleanor Morgan, Rosie Smith, Pat Myers, Marjorie Goodchild, Maureen Payne, Edith Ord and Cynthia Harmieson.

Before closing the meeting Val gave the date of February 5, 2009 for our post Christmas lunch. The venue has not been finalised.

We were reminded to bring appropriate crockery and cutlery to the party at our next meeting on December 9.
