COASTAL LUNCH: Nine members of the Beadnell WI lunch club enjoyed their monthly outing on a lovely day and visited the Victoria Hotel, Bamburgh.
Next month, on July 16, we are booked at the new Indian restaurant in Seahouses, guest are included. Doreen Godfrey is taking names.

This month, we had a painting-in-oils class, with local artists Frank Burke. Fifteen attended and produced work of
varied success.

We all enjoyed the experience and hope to have more such sessions, which are open to anyone.

Luckily, surfaces were covered with newspapers as it all got a bit messy. Some of the paintings were on display at our meeting.

Our county project is off the ground and almost running, providing magnetic postcode labels for every house in Beadnell.

We will all benefit from this, especially the first responders, ambulance and fire crews.

Craft classes start on Thursday, June 18.

Try your hand at something new – all welcome or teach someone else a new skill.

We welcomed Catherine Wilde of Northumberland Tartan Company.

She gave an interesting and humorous talk on the history of plaid, which began life as a heavy versatile, heavy waterproof cloak/shawl for shepherds. There was too much to write about here, but I can thoroughly recommend her as an entertaining speaker.

She brought examples of her wares and continuously added to her knowledge and anecdotes of the history of plaid.

Doreen Godfrey won the competition and Annette Manning the raffle.
