ALNWICK & DISTRICT CRICKET LEAGUE
Warkorth II 105 (all out) beat Embleton 87 all out by 18 runs

Saturday, August 25

A CRACKING bowling and fielding performance rescued the Twos at a blissfully sunny Castle Field.

Warkworth had upped the average age with an
injection of veterans and another winning toss promised plenty of runs in the sun.

The home side's top five all got starts with Puddephatt's trademark drives looking ominous for once until he holed out to a ghastly slash off Turnbull for 23.

A Currie carried on where he'd left off against Rock with an assured 30 but when he fell to a stunning return catch by the impressive G Davison the rot set in. With Davison, 7.4-3-10-6, making hay Warkworth slumped from 97 for 3 to 105 all out with 13-year-old Josh Robison left stranded after scoring his first senior runs for the club.

Embleton enjoyed a splendid tea with the Warkworth lads muttering about being a hundred runs light.

After the break openers Lewis, 4-26, and M Spoors, 3-23, tore into the opposition.

Lewis recaptured his early season form with a great spell of swing bowling and removed the dangerous Carss for 0 in his second over.

The Twos really started to believe, however, when a frenzied five over burst including two lbws and a rare caught and bowled from Lewis, a "trick-shot" run out from Glass and Spoors and a ball of rare quality from Plumley ripped the heart from the visitors' batting.

Then 41 for 2 became 50 for 7 but any thoughts that the job was done were rudely dismissed by Davison who was determined not to let his six wickets be wasted and Wilkin who had earlier bowled a fine if luckless spell. These two alternately prodded Embleton closer to the target. With just 20 needed and home nerves starting to fray the returning Spoors produced a quicker one which Davison flashed into brother Adam's gloves and the stand was broken.

It was left for 'bucket hands' Currie to snaffle the last catch and Warkworth to take the points in as good a fielding performance as they've produced all season.
