AFTER last week's heroics Tillside were hoping to finish the season on a winning note but due to injuries and work commitments fielded four younger members of the squad.
Warkworth faced a similar situation which made for an even contest.
Batting
first, Tillside made a quick start but soon lost Steve Nutt for 12 and when his opening partner Findlay joined him two overs later
for 20 Tillside were 40-2 after six overs.
The visitors' Brian Doyle bowled 12 quality overs for no reward while at the other end John Charlton removed both openers despite a spell which suggested he was playing a different game altogether!
Anderson to the rescue – he bowled 12 on the bounce for the first time in his life to record a creditable 3-53.
Indeed, the champs were indebted to McCreath 46 and match-winner McGregor 77 as they made rather heavy weather of the Twos attack to post 227 for 7.
Warkworth's reply started well enough, 91 for 2 in the 20th, and with Paminter 45 and Schroeder 19 at the crease five an over for the last 25 was at least possible.
The removal of both in three balls brought the last two recognised batsmen to the crease, however, and despite a hard running partnership the odds steadily lengthened.
Captain Puddephatt continued the fight but kept losing partners and was unable to get within reach of the home side total before he was also out to McGregor, who took four wickets for 45 and the overs ran out for the visitors. Tillside won by 45 runs.
