SG WEALTH MANAGEMENT NORTHUMBERLAND CRICKET LEAGUE, WILLIAM BIRKETT MEMORIAL CUP - FIRST ROUND
TUESDAY, MAY 12 2009

AFTER a crushing defeat of the Alnmouth friendly side, Berwick arrived to meet the first X1 at full strength.

Nick Denton moved quickly off the mark by having Lee Mark plumb lbw.

Pearson, with his bad
ly sprained ankle strapped up, bowled a fine line, as did Denton, who had bagged another wicket.

Middlemist was proving a stubborn obstacle.

He worked some good shots, especially from the wayward Tudor, who took a couple of overs to get into his stride.

Neil was ready but, as at the weekend, threatened bowlers sorted themselves out.

At the other end, Clough, smiling like a Cheshire cat all night after the Toon's great result on Monday, bowled freely, bagging a couple of wickets.

Berwick were all out within the 20 overs for 102.

Vickers and Pearson came to the wicket. A six from Pearson started the innings, followed by a four. This continued until he was bowled by Middlemist.

Next in was Clough, still grinning through his grill. However, both were removed when he was given lbw.

Then in came Chris Hauselberger. He and Robin Tudor finished off Berwick with five overs to spare.
