Alnwick’s most popular annual visitors are here again.

They are the parties of Swedish students who have been visiting the town for the last eight years, and this year’s group, the ninth, arrived here last Tuesday to stay for three weeks.

Coming from all over Sweden, the students are in a group organised by the extra-mural department of Gothenburg University, and are visiting this country with the intention of improving their English.

While in Alnwick the 24 Swedes lodge with local families, and spend three hours every morning studying English at The Duke’s Grammar School. The remainder of their time is spent in sightseeing.

Already they have visited Edinburgh, Holy Island, and the Otterburn tweed mills, and on Wednesday were entertained by Alnwick Round Tablers, who organised a barbecue.
