Windfarm plans due before councillors
PLANS for a Fenrother windfarm will come before councillors tomorrow.
But members of Northumberland County Council’s Planning and Environment Committee will be asked simply to note the application and decide whether to call a public meeting and site visit before determining the bid.
An application for five 126.5m-tall turbines to be erected on land to the north of the hamlet, near Longhorsley, has been submitted by Energiekontor UK, which states that the windfarm will provide power for up to 7,623 homes, while up to £45,000 a year in community benefits would be given to the Greater Morpeth Development Trust.
However, the proposal has prompted fierce opposition from locals and a 71,000-word community objection file has been submitted by the Fight Fenrother and Longhorsley Windfarm Group.
The epic document, which the campaign group says covers “hundreds of mistakes and flaws in the application” was delivered to the council last week.
Around 700 individual letters of objection have also been submitted.
And a survey by Tritlington and West Chevington Parish Council, which was carried out by voting leaflets delivered to every home in the area and online, showed 83.7 percent of respondents were against the turbine proposal, with 8.1 percent in support.
Of 123 total votes cast, 103 were against, ten were for and a further ten were of ‘no opinion’.
However, Energiekontor UK says that around 350 letters of support for the scheme have been submitted.
