Community lights to spark off festive joy

It’s that time again, the cold dark nights are here and the streets are lighting up to mark the coming of Christmas.
Mince pies, mistletoe and family fun. These are all things that spring to mind when you think of the festive season, but none more so than Christmas lights.
It is that annual event that brings families together, with carols, stalls and activities that fill the air with festive cheer.
Warkworth will kick-start the switch-ons and be the first village to become aglow tomorrow night.
It will mark the occasion with a craft fair and a village late-night shopping event that runs from 5pm to 9pm.
The lights ceremony will commence at 6.30pm and refreshments will be available from St Lawrence’s Church.
Amble is next to light up its streets, with a parade that will take place on Sunday night.
The parade will start at 5pm from The Wellwood and will arrive in the Town Square at 6.30pm.
Here the celebration will continue with the switch-on as well as other activities such as face painting and children’s story telling, preceded by a Christmas Fair during the day.
Seahouses will host its event next to the big Christmas tree at the main roundabout on Thursday, November 22.
The celebrations start at 6pm with community carol singing lead by the Village Voices choir. Father Christmas himself will be there and joined by a local celebrity to complete the countdown.
Alnwick’s traditional switch-on will take place on Friday, November 23.
The entertainment will begin in the Market Place at 6pm with the lights, which have been referred to as one the finest displays in the North East, to come alight at 7pm.
Morpeth will be holding a Mistletoe Fair in conjunction with its Christmas lights switch-on, which will take place from 4pm on Saturday, November 24.
Togston will turn on its lights on Saturday, November 24 as well, at 6pm.
There will be a Christmas Fair from 5.15pm onward in the church hall to build the excitement for the switch-on, which will take place in the church grounds.
Saturday, December 1, will see Bamburgh, Alnmouth, Berwick and East Chevington light up the sky with switch-ons.
Bamburgh will hold a carol service from 5.30pm before the lights are switched on at 6.30pm at the Grove, where thousands of lights will sparkle in front of the impressive backdrop of Bamburgh Castle.
Both Alnmouth and Berwick will start their celebrations at 4.30pm to welcome in the festive period.
East Chevington will join in the Christmas fun from 4pm onwards on Saturday, December 1. Alnwick’s Playhouse Band will be there creating a lively atmosphere and entertaining the crowd as they look through the stalls.
