TASTY treats were cooked up for children in their very own food festival at the Alnwick Garden at the weekend.
The first Alnwick Children's Food Festival was a huge success with about 4,000 visitors passing through the doors over the weekend.

It gave youngsters a chance to take part in exciting and educational food activities, with the aim of promoting healthy eating while making cooking fun.

Cookery demonstrations with a twist took place with Expo chef, Mark Earnden and children donned chefs hats and aprons to take part in Kitchen Academy cookery workshops.

Alison Hamer, learning development manager at the Alnwick Garden organised the day. She said: "It was a really good weekend. We had Taffy Thomas telling stories that were good enough to eat, which was lovely. We had people in the Roots and Shoots garden going out and helping us to harvest some of the vegetables."

The children decorated gingerbread men in Gingerbread Idol and queued up to exercise their legs while making a healthy drink on the smoothie bike.

Northumberland Waste Management joined in the event giving away free cotton bags for visitors to decorate and held potato printing workshops for them to take part in.

And The Healthy Schools Team from Northumberland Care Trust ran food activities and challenges throughout the weekend to educate children on how to cook and eat healthily.
