ORGANISERS are cooking up a new addition to this year's Alnwick Food Festival.
A children's food festival is being held, targeted at the under 16s.
It will be based at The Alnwick Garden and its focus will be on local produce with the same ethos as the food festival, which is run by Alnwick Lions Club.
James Glover, head
of community involvement at the Garden said: "We're delighted to be working with Alnwick Lions to help expand and develop the Alnwick Food Festival.
"The food festival has been a great success for Alnwick, bringing people from all over the country to experience some of the region's finest local produce.
"There are lots of opportunities for fun and educational activities for children and families, because the food festival fits so well with the Roots and Shoots programme we run at The Alnwick Garden.
"This programme is designed to bring people of all ages together to learn and understand more about where our food comes from, and to explore the fantastic opportunities fresh home grown produce brings to help us create delicious dishes and make our diets healthier."
Children are getting the chance to put their own mark on the festival.
The Gazette has launched a competition for anyone under 16 to design the logo for the Alnwick Children's Food Festival.
The lucky winner will get a £20 goody bag, courtesy of Alnwick Garden, and a family day out at the Garden.
Send entries, with your name, address and age, to Children's Food Festival, Northumberland Gazette, 32 Bondgate Without, Alnwick Northumberland NE66 1PN. The closing date is March 26.
Both festivals will be held on Saturday and Sunday, September 20 and 21.
