DID you ever fall over in the playground when you were at school? Did you shed a tear when you scuffed your shins?
Well, according to a daytime television commercial I caught earlier this week, you're now invited to sue the relevant authority. Instead of a pat on the head and a plaster, your child could be entitled to wads of compensation to ease their bumps and bruises.
We already live in an over-litigious society, where anyone and everyone is encouraged to sue whoever fits the bill. We've all seen the ridiculous extremes this kind of ambulance-chasing culture has led to.
Joggers suing sports-shoe manufacturers after tripping over their laces – an obvious and dangerous 'design fault'. And now it's arrived in our schools.
There are certainly genuine cases where negligence demands a pay-out. But pretty soon I can see no running being allowed in any playground, never mind a child being let within 10 feet of a swing or roundabout.
